The exhibition was well received, I’d been worrying about it for days in the run up when I heard the closure of the last Deep mine, Kellington Colliery, in the UK. When I’d first put the grant application in I hope to show it in a mining area. Nottingham seemed the obvious choice, Thoresby Colliery was still in operation in the area and the county had played a major part in the strike.
It turned out to be unnecessary to have worried, there was no trouble. I good a good review of the exhibition in the Nottinghamshire Post.
My father standing very proud next to his own image, the first in the series.
Back then I has no idea I’d manage to get 28 others to share their story. Three years on they were all on display at Surface Gallery.
